  • Very well thought and put together. All valid and true.

LT Bernheim I went to ROTC with your sister. Crazy that I see you writing articles now. Hope all is well with you and your sister. Sounds like you are doing well out there.

  • Integrate with the SPO shop. Start thinking about MASCAL and personnel moves now. How will “dead” Soldiers move around the battlefield when the Brigade Support Area (BSA) jumps? We had a BN die twice in a short amount of time. You can’t be prepared for that many Soldiers but you should at least try to have a decent plan.

Who is your higher and…[Read more]

  • Having seen some officers come to our unit from the Reserves it was a change. Most were not ready mentally and physically for the everyday challenge of doing “it” everyday. We had one officer that basically showed up and couldn’t hack it and ended up working at BDE in some BS position. Also had another officer that did not know what an FSC was in…[Read more]

If you are still at Fort Lee stop by the IG office near the post office and talk to me. I was the Alpha company commander in that unit for 18 months. I know a bunch about the unit and the people that are still there.

Let me know or send me an e-mail.

  • A lot of comments were made about the Career course preparing you for command. It’s been a few years, but as I recall them telling us at the Logistics career course is that the course wasn’t there to prepare you for command. It was to develop more tools and get you ready for the next phase of staff work. I do agree that more should be spent on the…[Read more]

  • I agree with George. Moving things to mobile units will help. Is it possible to have a CSSB co-located with some assets to move flatracks or containers? You can also use smaller containers and put them on LMTV’s if you have the MHE and manpower to support.

Sounds like someone possibly you or the SPO needs to help the commander understand what…[Read more]

  • I finally found my old disc with all my products on it. Attached is our BSB TACSOP which has lots of defensive sector data on it. Really would like to know how this training event went.

  • I think pages 18-22 or so should help you. It goes over signing it down to units and the proper forms and proper way to cover everyone should something go wrong. This was our BDE ammo SOP.

  • I would agree. Looking back on the Petroleum Water officer course or the Support Operations course that would have kept me at Ft. Lee two months longer would have been cool. The new unit said no we need you. I may have a chance for those schools later but at the end of the day the unit will trump all. I agree with Jeff in that if you get there…[Read more]

I knew why we had gunnery but recently my old unit had some seniors out there questioning it. It also did not help that the crews could not hit the broad side of the barn either.

I used the juggling of glass or rubber balls once for my LT’s. There’s lots of stuff here you could use. he OBJ-T one could be used too. He could also use some issue the BN has as a topic like if its poor leadership or mis-managemnet of tasks find an article for people to read and discuss it.

I find those more interesting then anything about…[Read more]

I’m selfish and I know we always had issues with this during gunnery being in a BSB. What are the metrics for keeping that crew qualified? Same as a Stryker crew? Can we mix and match TC and gunner that have previously qualified on different crews? I don’t see a lot on that but it probably comes from the fact no one really understands why BSB’s do…[Read more]

  • As a logistics officer we have many WO’s in our field. Some are good and some are bad. Usually the good ones will as you said show you the tough love and help you. I remember my first motor officer helping me write my OER because my commander wasn’t. He sat me down and he gave me a few of his support forms to show me what it would look like. He…[Read more]

I have attached a few things that may help. Not much for ammo except the SPO garrison SOP that could help you. I really do need to find my discs from command. I was a distro company commander active side so if you need any help or anything else Just send a message.

Let me know if those helped or not.

  • Just a heads up to anyone interested in ACS (Advanced Civil Schooling) as a logistician. That program does not really exist as most of us used to know it. CASCOM is running the show now and they are forcing you to receive a degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in Supply Chain Management. I would ask branch for more information, but they…[Read more]

  • 1. While it gets to it I think as a young LT just be open about your relationship. Talk to the CO first and maybe get some back story or tidbits of info that may help you. A lot of LT’s are scared of the 1SG but I made a point for my second 1SG during command to really use him to also help mentor my LT’s since we had E6’s as PSG’s and ,my 1SG was…[Read more]

Any update to this? How did it turn out? Did the Soldiers learn anything decent? Will they defend against an Atropian hoard?

You both hit the nail on the head with a lot of this. On to finances though. Start your retirement now. Put a few percent into the TSP or BRS if you so choose. It’s great now that the government will match what you put in now too. It’s easier to increase when you are young and single for each year then not having anything started when you start a…[Read more]

  • Paul,

I tried for a few when I was done command. The William and Mary would have been a great choice if I got it. I think the timeline may not work out for you now though.

My friend did the Georgetown fellowship and he didn’t really want that Masters, but he is making great connections in his job as an intern that will end up taking him to his…[Read more]
