@vmabshire I have a couple of great answer gather from other Reserve Compo Professionals.

Please bared with me as I post each answer…there is great information in all, hope it helps!

    1. Is the whole BN being stood up? The BDE should be putting people on ADOS- or TPU’s from the BN- to do this. There is a unit in my building being stood up…[Read more]

  • Aloha! This is what I was able to gather from my husband who has ran this type of ranges.

    Hope it helps!

“The attached Range cards (EXAMPLES) is what we utilize to qualify the gunners and assistant gunners on the Crew serve weapons in my unit.

They are both from TC 3-22×50 for the M2 Machine Gun and TC.

If you follow the ammo breakdown and…[Read more]

  • As a BN S1 my first advice to new commanders is…Do not wait! Reach out for help to the BN Staff, we are here to enable you to do your job!

When I  was first assigned as the BN S1, I was unaware of what UCFR was or how to provide access to my commanders.

Thankfully, I had (still do) an awesome NCO who had access and was able to help some of our…[Read more]

  • As we get ready for junior officer promotion and Captain Career Course 2 new things are introduced “My Board File” and “AIM – Assignment Interactive Module”.

    What are these?
    1. The My Board File is an application to give candidates an opportunity to
view their selection board documents in one convenient location, which board
    members will review…[Read more]

  • Thank you Brock!

it’s been an ongoing issue as our higher HQ has not been able to provide clear guidance. At the BN Level we’ve opted for having our XO as the only reviewing person for all grammatical errors. Unfortunately at the BDE level there is about 4 people checking for grammar so it has become more of a “writing style” then anything else.

  • Having a “civilian sector background” I can honestly say that “building long lasting relationships” is everything. At a very young age I was taught that when you leave a job, it is best to leave on good terms and living an open door behind you so that if you ever need to go back or need assistance, that door still open and people will take the…[Read more]

  • Thank you ae_rollinson!

Awards are getting just a bit better, unfortunately our higher, higher HQ has been pretty nit picky and BDE has been unable to provide us with a standard.

What we’ve opted to do is have our BN XO be the last reviewer and he is technically our standard so far.

I will ensure to use this tool to help Co & 1SG get a better…[Read more]

  • Good afternoon @jake-bouley; spoke to my husband who is a 92A and has been to a JRTC rotation before their deployment. This was his input, hope this helps or at least provide some guidance
Okay. So looking at JRTC /NTC rotations you will most likely need about 30 days of unit supplies to sustain your day to day operations in while you are…[Read more]

  • cplenge/ basic writting skills! It seem as though the recomendors are making the achievements sound too eloquent and forget the basic rule of writting K.I.S (keep it simple)

gregoryhacker/ we do have a BN Policy Letters which states our timelines as well as standard citations. The problem is mainly with the achievements, recommenders are w…[Read more]

  • As a new BN S1, I am entrusted to review all awards and ensure that there is minimum gramatical errors.

Unfortunately, I have been seeing some awards that are “in pretty bad conditions” regarding they way they are written.

What are some tools that can be shared with Commanders/1SG to assist them with award write ups?

    The WO College website…[Read more]

  • Thank you! Things have gotten much better however having someone else’s prospective on my situation wouldn’t be a bad idea!

I’ll be happy to link up with another fellow AG Officer!

  • As we all know, the Army is slowly moving to a more digital world. SGLVs are now updated through SOES webpage as opposed to through the S1.

  • Thank you Jason!

Trust…is earned not given! Cliché but true!
Just a few days ago we had an incident where a 1SG was “showing off” in front of our CSM and being a bit disrespectful to my NCO.

While in the meeting, I pulled the NCO and said, “let them speak, you are doing great, have the right info and the error that he is pointing out is…[Read more]

I’ve try to maintain everyone informed but also try to take care of things are the lowest level.

I am still learning on how to properly involve my HHC Commander/BN XO, it is a hard transition and I continue to just want to fix everything my self.

  • Thank you so much Brock! This is a real eye opener!
Being a leader is hard…I am learning that rather quickly and it is quite a challenge yet a challenge I plan on overcoming.

Your explanation on escalation of force makes complete sense…as a Junior Officer I am still learning on what the right thing to do is as far as mentoring others and…[Read more]

  • Thank you Adam! This is very true and I appreciate your words.
My first disagreement with this NCO turned into me approaching the CSM and requesting to move the NCO; his response, very professional and made me think twice, “ma’am, understand my fox hole first, how would it look on me if I give up on this NCO right away?”.
I was quite annoyed at…[Read more]

  • I kept the details to a minimum on my post, nonetheless I was quite thorough on my counseling for expectation on NCOIC duties and responsibilities. It seems like this SM is motivated however over the past couple of weeks there has been tasks that have come down and have been turned in late or not done at all. • As a new BN s1, it has been hard living work “on time”. I’ve had days where my husband has called and said “why you still there”…I’ve had other days that I’ve forgotten to eat lunch…

I do try not to bring work home (literally) however, my mind does not stop…I think of what I did not finish for the day, what I still have to do the next day,…[Read more]
