    This post/thread is fire!

Knowing what you do now as a post-CCC Captain, what preparation would you have done differently before and during the CCC to get what you wanted out of it?

As an MI officer who remained at Benning for the MCCC, I would highlight some of the same points already mentioned:

    1. Have a deliberate plan for the family and self-development.  At the MCCC, you have more time to focus on family and personal development. Plan weekend trips with your family to locations around the CCC or have family visit. In the MCCC you can participate in the writing program in which you write a monograph about a combat experience, participate in combatives, etc. Focus on development that you think would benefit your next assignment(s), write a plan or outcomes you’d like to accomplish as you’ll certainly have time.
    2. Prep for graduate school. Take the GRE, do the Columbus State program if that fits in your timeline/ goals, or start an on-line masters.
    3. Talk with Branch. Most branch officers will make it out to the CCC to speak to the masses. I’d argue that you should have a strong communication flow with your Branch Manager prior to and during CCC, regardless of branch.
    4. Read doctrine, organize your toolbox, and PARTICIPATE IN THE JO FORUM (write).  Yes. I wish I would have known about the JO Forum (or CC back in the day).  It wasn’t until months prior to assuming command that I became aware of the great resources/dialogue, and actually started to game plan, read, and participate in these forums. As a post-CCC officer, I write and reference material more and more. Use the time to hone your reading and writing skills. Whether you use google drive or your own external drive, you’ll have access to several publications, articles, and tools. In CCC you’ll have time to organize yourself.
