Good question. Your unit’s personnel section starts tracking you on their “gains roster” about the same time you receive your orders. So, it’s safe to send them a note as soon as you can reasonably predict your arrival date. That piece of the letter is important. They want to know who you are, sure. But, for nuts and bolts administrative and strength management stuff, they also really need to know when you officially belong to them. They only know a ~30 day window. If you can tell them, I graduate ___ and expect to report on ____, that allows them to do long-term planning for how they will assign different positions in the unit.

So, send that letter as soon as you feel confident you will pass the BOLC final!

Post the letter you send as an example here to help out your buddies.

Don’t forget to limit your introduction letter to one page. ONE PAGE!
