    Hi Chris!

I spent a few short stints at Fort Bliss our the past few years. I found life at Fort Bliss to be enjoyable. like many things in life, they are what you make of it. It’s warm, of course, but there’s plenty of things to do in the area. The food options in the area are top notch, there are a bunch of outdoor places to hike, explore and enjoy. Las Cruces, New Mexico is relatively close and there’s a bunch of outdoor shopping and nightlife there.

Fort Bliss has a rather extensive outdoor mall and one of the nicest PX facilities I’ve been to. There are plenty of training areas for you to plan tough training with your unit and the housing options are good. Cost of living is on par with most of the bases in the military. The last time I was there, Mexico was off limits to Soldiers, so you probably won’t be going there. You’ll hear more about that when you report to the replacement company.

Since you’re going to a BSB, my guess is that you’ll be going to the Bravo Company to be a Maintenance Platoon Leader or potentially to one of the Forward Support Companies to be a distribution platoon leader or perhaps executive officer. Each Company is MTOE’d around 95 Soldiers or so. I don’t know much about that specific unit, but you’ll undoubtably get a great group of Soldiers excited about your leadership, so go in with a positive attitude and you’ll do great. If you haven’t sent a letter of introduction to your new CoC, I’d recommend doing that. Good luck and enjoy Sun Country!
