I think this is something that the MI Corps has actually done very well.  MI BOLC thoroughly integrated MDMP into the branch specific portion of the course and also included a short lesson on design.  For many blocks of the course, you would go through MDMP start to finish several times (with an emphasis on mission analysis and IPB) to include briefing all of the major products produced during the process.  I think the key part of that approach was the constant repetition and feedback you can get in a classroom setting.

While replicating a classroom environment is probably not feasible for too many units, a good S3/XO could probably get ahold of a CTC or school house scenario and guide a small group of JOs through MDMP over the course of a week.
