I’m trying to get time with my SR in order to force some conversations. I’m sure other functional area officers may see some parallels to my predicament:

I’m an FA57 in a USAR ECAB. They haven’t traditionally filled this role, but here I am. I switched components from NG to USAR AGR, and in doing so lost some progression time so my first look for MAJ is next year rather than 2 years ago…As the A/S3 Sim Ops, I occupy one of two O4 positions (the other is medical service). All the other O slots are O3s, and I’m the only non-Aviator AGR. The BDE CDR is rated fixed wing, as are several other O3s in the shop, and they fly together on a regular basis.

So I’m up against a promotion board OER while in a KD position as I compete for my next assignment, yet I am the unicorn that’s not only not of the branch, but also will most likely not even remain within the command post this tour.

Setting the conditions for getting him to sit down with me, and eventually getting him to buy in on interest beyond what my rater is going to give him is a priority of mine. The discussion here helped, and I am looking for any other tips.
