A part of my resolution list includes staying in better touch with the news as it relates to my profession.  Two main ways I accomplish this.  First is to use services that already exist.  The Early Bird is the obvious one, and then some organizations publish news briefs that are more specific.  For me as a 51C (contracting), the Virtual Acquisition Office publishes a daily news rollup.  I’d venture to guess there are similar ones out there for other occupations.  Second way is to use Google Alerts: build in any and all keywords that you have a shred of interest in and you get a daily email rollup of news articles that apply to your keywords.  My keywords relate to things like Congressional items of concern (i.e. House Appropriations Committee, Senate Armed Services Committee, etc), my past/present units, occupational interests (i.e. Army Futures Command, DCMA, DCAA, etc), and my higher headquarters (i.e. ACC, ASC, AMC, DA G4, etc).  Like anything, it’s not perfect but I do think it helps me discover some more obscure articles that I’d never find in the mainstream outlets.
