At OCS, I learned that I should observe my unit for 30 days or so before drawing up and giving initial counselings to my Platoon Sergeant and even Squad Leaders.  That’s well and good in the Active side, but what about in the Reserve side?  Since we do not meet every day, would it be best to observe my platoon for 3-6 drills or should I just decide when the time is right to do it?  I drilled with my unit before shipping to Basic and OCS; I recently graduated OCS and will be shipping to BOLC in March, so I still have some time to ponder initial counselings.
