I agree with Jdemello, I’d like to add this:

I say do the initial counseling, you can give your left and right limits, express your leadership style, and say you’ll observe current practices for xx days and after that tell them to be prepared to adjust fire.

The one thing I recommend is to manage your expectations.  As a reservist you can’t go from garrison to full blown field operations in a month; but take the time to plan it out and pull in all the stakeholders.  As a PL get your CDRs approval, brief the 1SG and PSG on your plan and get their feedback.  When you encounter resistance to change, be patient but be firm.  Habits are built over time and take longer to break.  If you can make small changes to achieve your goals it’s a win.
