Great question!  In my experience as a Guard PL and Commander 30 days is too long.  You have maybe 24 drills as a PL.  It will fly.

You should be having weekly conversations with your PSG at a minimum.  There is a ton that will happen in the space between drills and if you show up expecting to get a quick download you’re setting yourself up for failure.  You will probably hear and interact with the full time staff a bunch as well.  Being a PL is a second full time job.  Its not something you can mail in and be successful.

So, have the initial counseling sooner.  But it needs to be a conversations between near peers.  You should be listening more than talking.  Explain a vision for your platoon, I’m sure you have one even if you haven’t articulated it yet.  What do you hope to accomplish.  Talk to each other about your expectation for inter-drill communication.  What methods work best and when is the best time to talk.  How does your PSG balance the work-life-drill balance?  What are your PSG’s greatest frustrations?  What do they wish they could do if someone could help.

These are the things you would see on AD.  Here you have to pull them.
