Who’s read the new Army Directive on changes to FRG  to the now Soldier and Family Readiness Group Program? See attached if you haven’t.

Here’s a brief highlights of some changes:

    • FRGs will now be referred to as SFRG, “Changing the name critically links the Soldier’s readiness to the Family. It also ensures that commanders incorporate all unit personnel, including single Soldiers and their Families, into the communication activities and community network of the SFRG. The SFRG remains a unit commander’s program”
    • The SFRG SOP will include up-to-date alert rosters and comms procedures, but may include some other information.
    • Additional reporting requirements will not be added, beyond yearly audits (or change of command, commanders request, and others outline in the Directive).
    • SFRG are encouraged to use social media to accomplish the intent and mission, but must do so IAW social media policies
    • Fund Custodian “may not be the unit commander, first sergeant, the Soldier Family Readiness Liaison, or the SFRG leader”.
    • “An inspection of the unit SFRG as part of a Command or an Organization Inspection Program is not required.”

What do you think about these changes? How will it change your experience with the SFRG? Will it help SFRG’s grow and become a better presence…or will it be a minor ripple in the ocean of tasks accomplished daily?
