As a cadet at West Point, I often get the impression that once I become an officer, I am to behave like a stone-cold, uninterested person in regards to enlisted soldiers. I personally do not think this is conducive to building trust or creating a level of camaraderie that would lead to a highly cohesive unit. Once again, this is only an impression of mine. So I guess the real question is: What is an appropriate comfort level to employ around your soldiers in order to establish mutual trust and respect, while still maintaining professionalism?
