Great and detailed advice is spot on. To add on, remember that you have (or should have) a sponsor assigned to you at your gaining unit, suck that person dry for knowledge, both on the job you’ll be doing and on the community in general. Knowing the better places to live and the fastest way to get on post are more important than you probably appreciate now.
Regarding advice for moving in general, remember that everyone moved out of their parents’ basement at some point in your life. Ask for advice from your family, peers, superiors, they will help you and won’t think you are dumb for asking.
On a financial note, the first poster’s anecdote about living one paygrade down is absolutely the best thing you can do, the second being to pile money into your TSP, then a Roth IRA, until you’ve maxed your annual caps. Its not a ton of money compared to your overall pay, and if you follow the first poster’s advice about living frugally you’ll be set for success.
