I am a huge fan of any type of leadership book but the two that shaped my leadership/command philosophy more than anything as a company commander is below.

“The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership” by James C. Hunter is a different look on how to serve the people that work for you instead of them serving you. Military leadership is very chain of command oriented and sometimes it is easy to lose focus that people not machines work for you.

“Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success” by John Wooden and Jay Carty is a book that focuses on how to build a successful team. I plagiarized this book a lot when I was building my command philosophy.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence also has a reading list at http://www.benning.army.mil/common/content/pdf/MCoE%20reading%20listFinal_Copy1.pdf. It also provides lists for maneuver leaders at all levels.
