Vanezza, nathan.a.wike’s answer is excellent.
I will ADD this: understand your boss’ intent and execute that first in all things. occasionally ask for intent, but you will see it in orders, and just be able to read him or her. Most of my sit-downs with senior raters have been job interviews.
If you are INTERVIEWING for a position (or future positions), you may get asked to describe your top 3 weaknesses, here’s how I answered:
1. training/team-building. no go-to guys on my team means there will be times when we make mistakes, but no times when we stop trying to improve, do things better or give up. I think its better to have more people that can do the job than single points of failure (especially for staff sections).
2. ground truth. rather than giving quick half-answers or going off hearsay, I’d rather owe you an answer, and ask more people essential questions. miscommunication wastes time/decisions, I’d rather develop the situation and inform you when I have the facts.
3. under-reporter. I like to handle things at my own level, work off intent, take initiative and occasionally report. I am not someone who provides constant updates, am sure you wouldn’t want that, but hope over time to earn your trust that things will get done.
