Hello!  My best recommendation is to get the templates for each level of award from your higher headquarters so that you have a correct “shell” to work from.  Admin data is usually standardized by the S1/G1 and you can easily ensure that fonts, spacing, signature blocks, etc. are correct to cut down on the correction cycle.  Many units also have standard citations.

For content, you can ask the S1 for redacted examples of different awards (achievement, retirement, PCS) to get a feel for phrasing and scope of write-ups.  The regs offer the critical guidance and another great resource is S1Net, now found under the milSuite site: https://login.milsuite.mil/ (CAC required).

Finally, don’t forget to save your drafts and final copies to reference down the line.  Much like your “I love me” book, evals, and other documents, those personal comments will serve you well as you author, correct, and approve awards in the future!
