As a former HHC Commander, I appreciate your focus on competence and leadership.  As a maintenance company it is significant that your Soldiers become the SME of their trade. This does not exclude becoming a leader and I agree with your philosophy that every Soldier is a leader and should strive to become better.

How do you continue to instill these specific ideas? How do you get both old and incoming Soldiers/ leaders to buy into your philosophy?  One of the things I did was to brief every incoming Soldier on my philosophy and to let them know the company’s goals.  This may seem daunting at first, depending on how many Soldiers you have. But I found that 10 minutes spent at the beginning of a Soldier’s tenure in my company was well worth it.  I also would constantly reiterate this with awards, close-out formations etc.  Redundancy in communication was key.
