I read this article this morning about Out of Office assistant (‘away message ‘, for those of us who’ve used AOL IM).

While the article is short and discussing civilian workplace, I thought it could be a good point of departure for sharing other’s practices.

My formula:
“I’ll be out of the office (optional: on leave/TDY/field training/etc) from date X to date Y. (If applicable) I will have intermittent / no access to email during this time. For immediate assistance, please contact (2 POCs – Rank First MI Last name, phone numbers OR the unit staff duty desk.)
