Thank you for your response! I do indeed have the counseling’s to back up my claims and concerns. The 2LT was actually removed from my direct supervision and given some cool off time in Battalion, until the BSB could find a place for him.

You bring up a great point, and that is the first question I asked myself (and other leaders): How could I have better mentored this 2LT? I have done some internal digging, and based on his comments and demeanor for the 5 months under my command, I must say I did everything in my power…he didn’t want mentorship. He was a 9-5 type officer, and it was a attribute and poison to the environment, especially on a deployment.

The officer literally state the following in our first engagement, “I became an officer because I was tired of being told what to do…”
