S3: What factors made Korea vulnerable and appealing for military occupation? What geopolitical factors in the 20th century led Korea’s invasion and occupation in June 1950?

<span style=”color: #111111; font-family: Georgia, ‘Times New Roman’, Times, serif; font-size: 12px;”>A few factors that made Korea vulnerable to military occupation was its location between large world super powers and its military was not ready to fight a heavy armor force. Korea is in a prime location in Asia for a foot hold for a occupy military force because of the multiple ports, rail ways, and natural resources on the peninsula. After the occupation of Japan, the ROK army are still more of less under developed to defend against an attack like the one in 1950.  the general lack of supplies, indirect fires assets, anti-armor assets and an armor fighting force left the ROK extremely vulnerable to the Russian supplied North Korean invaders.  </span>

The Geopolitical factor that led to the invasion and occupation was the fact that there was no real US or NATO political plan for Korea or really main land Asia.  all of the focus was being put on Europe and how we would reduce the threats or influence of Russian style communism of the cold war. It was that lack of political plan and intelligences in the region that led to North Korea’s successful invasion from the north with help of Russia.
