S3: What warfighting functions contributed most to Americans’ continual defeat and withdrawal to the Pusan Perimeter in the summer of 1950? Answer generally or focus mainly on Task Force Smith for examples to support your analysis.

Intelligence and sustainment contributed most to the Americans’ continual defeat and withdrawal to the Pusan Perimeter. The US forces greatly underestimated the capabilities of the NPKA. They were not prepared to face the overwhelming threat their tanks posed and when they were encountered, they didn’t have an answer to them. The US forces also did not understand the incredibly high morale and motivation that existed throughout the NPKA. When they encountered both these factors and the realization that their own supplies were woefully inadequate to deter the threat, their defenses quickly crumpled. The US forces not only could not match the number of soldiers they encountered but had no means of deterring the overwhelming wave of tanks that they faced.
