The US did not understand the armor threat because it underestimated the support North Korean forces would garner from sympathetic allies. In short, the US did not want to appear to be too involved in the plight of the South Koreans initially because of the threat of initiating another world conflict on the scale of WWII. The US government choose not to equip US forces against the biggest armor threats because it choose to believe South Korean forces would not face such a threat. How the US is addressing the CBRN threat we face today not the same because today we do not have the currently have the capabilities to face the CBRN threat. We know much more at this point in time but the multi-faceted CBRN threat is too vast large with the current restrictions placed on the budget.
