The biggest asset the NKPA forces had at the beginning of the Korean War was the element of surprise. UN and South Korean forces were not prepared to fight a war. They did not have enough ammo, provisions, and manpower. NKPA forces realized they might be able to route friendly forces and gain control of the peninsula. Friendly forces also did not believe they would be attacked. They misunderstood the audacity of NKPA forces and this lapse almost caused NKPA force to win the conflict on the peninsula.
