What is your response to the steadfastness of MacArthur’s insistence on the Inchon landing? How does it change, had the mission gone otherwise?

In hindsight, the Inchon landing was an audacious operation that took the enemy by surprise and set a tempo for MacArthur’s force. Even when the weather made the attempt questionable, MacArthur drove on and established the foothold. However, from the perspective of a leader in 1950, I believe that I would have had a few doubts about the operation. Any man willing to risk his men in such a daring mission puts his true intent into question. Did MacArthur truly believe that a landing at Incheon would work or could it have been his desire to become Korea’s War hero, or was it a mixture of both. If the landing would have been a disaster, my opinion of the decision and of MacArthur probably would have been a negative one. As I continue to develop and hopefully take higher commands, maybe my thought process will change. Regardless, “Fortune favors the bold” and MacArthur proved it that day.
