FSC: Discuss the three advantages the CCF possessed over UN Forces. What can we learn from them?

The first advantage the Chinese troops had was the element of surprise. They possessed the ability to enter into the war without anyone knowing as well as the ability to close and engage into direct contact with UN Forces without ever giving a hint. The second advantage was that they had an overwhelming amount of soldiers to overwhelm the enemy. This allowed the ability for them to quickly envelope their enemies, cut supply lines, and communication. The third advantage was that the Chinese had prepared in training by knowing the advantages of the UN Forces and exploited them by conducting their assaults at night and hiding during the day. On the surface it looks as if the UN Forces had made the same mistake of underestimating an enemy. An enemy very similar to the North Koreans that where allowed to enter into a war on their own terms and fight their own tactics to their advantage. We can learn from this that when confronting an enemy that it is very important to explore all possible actions of the enemy forces and prepare for them through the MDMP process. It is similar to scenario planning. You can never expect that your plan will be executed to standard because the enemy will always have his say. Knowing in the back of people minds that the Chinese could enter the war and fight on their terms was on the back of people minds. Their own disbelief of it actually happening ultimately led to the lose of life and retreat.
