McAruther recognized the importance of cutting off the enemy’s supply lines. Secondly he understood the need to control Seoul. He insisted on the bold move despite criticism for being too risky, and once landed, pushed into Seoul to retake the city. It was the turning point in the war as it changed the momentum of the nK advance once supply lines were cut off.
The battle for Pusan ultimately came down to how quickly the UN forces could be resupplied with equipment, troops, and weapons. With McAruther cutting from the west towards Seoul, the nK supply lines cut off, and the reinforcements pouring in, the momentum would swing in the favor of the UN forces. From this point forward, UN forced were able to control the Land, Sea and Air, giving them superiority in numbers and fire capabilities.
