The author’s commentary on “defending the frontier” is valid perspective. In order for America to defend its homeland it has to project its authority over the international stage. It has done so as long as it has been a superpower. We acted accordingly to Korea as a police action. We sought limited war which caused us to commit fully to the war which we did in Korea and Vietnam with respect to the Domino Theory and the containment of communism. The fall of one nation to communism will snowball to the neighboring countries. This was the common belief. We as a country wouldn’t and couldn’t allow the spread of communism.

We continued the same actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. We entered as a police action which we then realized a minimal force wouldn’t work to restabilize the government so we began on pushing more troops to rebuild the infrastructure and train the army. It began a mission of nation building and to destroy the terrorists who pledge to no nation and have no borders.
