S3: Given the protracted conclusion of the war, who would you consider its winners in 1953? How about 2017?

The author writes “There was no more war— but there was no peace. There was no victory. It was called cease-fire.” One can extract the implication that if there is no peace, there is no victory. In 1953 the fighting had ceased, and armistice agreed upon. The Korean peninsula is not at peace.

If the war is seen between communism and democracy I propose that democracy won. Democracy is the subtle victor in the sense that it protected the east from communistic rule. The Korean peninsula was seen as a communist gateway to the east and became the place where two ideologies would clash. Half the peninsula was lost to communism but much of the world was spared.
