Able: Which “Lesson” from the author do you most strongly agree or disagree with? Why?

I agree with Fehrenbach’s notion that “a nation that does not prepare for all the forms of war should then renounce the use of war in national policy.” The Korean War is a perfect example of a situation where America was not ready for war. As previously discussed in other posts we were not ready to “fight tonight.” We were poorly equipped, barely trained and greatly underestimated the potential of the enemy. As a PL, this book showed me the damaging effects of not keeping a well trained force. Combat readiness should have been the priority back then but it wasn’t. We settled for complacency and failed to prepare for the worst. Our job is to be ready for war. In 1950, there were many levels of leadership that didn’t do there job to make sure we were ready.
