To address the currently top-rated “what we’re not discussing” from the poll, “overload of training requirements” – we’ve known for a long time that there literally isn’t enough time to accomplish everything. One study projected over 400 days of 350-1 training to accomplish yearly, another projected 20 months of “required” training for every 12 months.

I wish I could remember who gave the OPD way back when, but they said a commander should always have something “red” to brief. If everything was “green”, either you’re lying to make a pretty slide, or you aren’t challenging your unit with lofty enough goals. Great in theory, but I still find it hard to brief anything as “red”.
