I agree with LT McDonough’s remarks on decision making and how there is usually no turning back once the decision has been made. In combat a platoon leader must make decisions that can make or break a situation. I would imagine that the majority of decisions made in a fire fight come down to training and instinct.  A person does not have much time to deliberate within themselves why they are making certain decisions. These decisions can mean the difference between life and death for that person or a soldier that the PL is in charge of. There is no turning back once these decisions are made.

Decisions that we make in day to day life can play a major role in other peoples lives as well as our own. These decisions are not made under the massive stress of being in a combat battle and can be made deliberately with thought and discussion. We are who we are because of the decisions we make during the course of our lives. Once those decisions are made there is no turning back. The decision to join the Army is one that will change all of us forever whether it be for good or bad. But it will aid in forming who we are and who we will become. In some cases people will go through life making decisions without thought of consequence and disregard for the people around them. They aimlessly wander not understanding what is happening with them on the inside. These people tend to point the finger when they end up in bad situations. They often forget to think about the decisions that they made to cause such a situation. Many times because of those decisions there is no turning back.
