When LT McDonough says “Military leaders must weigh the effects of their decisions carefully because usually there is no turning back”, I absolutely agree with him. A leader cannot turn his back on his decision, especially in a combat situation. If a leader decided to turn back on his decision, it will result in loss of lives. Not only that, turning your back on a decision will affect what your soldiers think of you because as a leader, they are absolutely relying on you. Relying on you to guide them through the battle making sure that they are successful at what they do. However, that would be affected if as a leader you are not making the good decisions, they will lose that sense of trust in you as a leader. That is why as we are being trained to be future leaders, we are often put into a situation where we must make quick yet effective decisions because that is how we are going to learn, if and when we are in control. His quote from chapter 12 definitely defines what being an MS3 is like, especially when we are leading a squad or platoon during lanes at lab. As we are leading a group of soldiers, we have to make sure that we are seeing through multiple approaches before we come to a final decision. Because if we don’t make the best decision, not only is it going to make it hard for our A&L team, it is also going to affect the trust – making them doubt the decisions that we make. As we are continuing our training to be an Army Officer, we are using the training that we receive into training ourselves to make quick, rational decisions because I believe that is going to boost the morale of our soldiers which can lead to successful if not more within the group.
