I saw many of my peers leave the force after command. In my experience, I found that recruiters were getting better at targeting certain officers. There were fellow officers who had anywhere from 2-6 deployments and at the end of the day were wore out. You also have to consider the appeal of going back to school with the GI Bill. I was surprised at the amount of talent that left the ranks.
That being said, I think the best one can do is demonstrate value and conduct a cost-benefit analysis of potential options. I made the decision to stay in because I view service fulfilling but, primarily got the buy-in from the family. Leaving the force is not easy, but at the end of the day, you will have to leave it and having a plan will be critical.
