Imagine having 4-5 years to grow as an officer before you commanded troops. I got voluntold to command 30 days after pinning Captain. Similarly, there’s some notion that many Majors struggle, are unprepared. What if they served in ‘broadening’ assignments first, and the last thing they did was 24-months of KD (S-3 and XO) for example? That’d be a seasoned Major able to guide a unit through systems implementation.
