@logisticus Plain and simple I totally agree and think you are on to something. This is exactly what I did as a CPT and plan to do the same as a field grade. Unfortunately, I don’t think our system, personnel and culture specifically, are set up that way. For one, branch managers and senior leaders are always pushing to “knock out” KD early. If you wait, one also risks not falling into a KD position for one reason or another and becoming at-risk for promotion (this has happened to a couple folks I know). However, there are signs that this mindset is changing, at least in the MI Corps. The advice is now go and “broaden / prepare ” yourself prior to taking a Brigade S2 job.
@adam.szczypka totally agree with you. Ours was two weeks and could have saved a couple days. One good thing was that the 25th ID CDR at the time, MG Flynn took it upon himself to improve the course. He and other senior leaders came to the course and talked what they expected of company commanders which, was a tremendous benefit. What PCC did you goto, Gordon?
For both @adam.szczypka and @logisticus – When and where did you become aware of the JO forum?
