The frustration LT McDonough expressed in chapter 22, in my opinion, was completely warranted. He knew, even before the mission started, that the PL from 3rd platoon was a weak leader. When it came time to link up with his platoon after LT McDonough tactically marched his section through the woods and a river, in the dark, and got no response after numerous radio attempts, yes, he had a reason to be frustrated. Even more so, when he was nearly killed by friendlies, again because of the incompetence of the PL of 3rd platoon, that was an even greater reason to be frustrated.

As far as the way LT McDonough treated his peers, I do not see any issue with it. He had every right to lay into the PL of 3rd platoon when he walked into his ORP and found the LT and his RTO asleep, actions needed to be taken. Especially after the day his section had endured, losing three soldiers, yet still being able to complete there part of the mission, 3rd platoons PL had no excuse to be tired, and asleep if LT McDonough could do what he did.
