The culture in the Army currently views 2LT’s as inexperienced bafoons. This makes the job as a new leader all the more difficult, but not impossible. Many new Army leaders are highly intelligent, capable people, and as subordinates and higher witness this, instilling discipline becomes easier.

As a JO you have to prove yourself to your peers, subordinates, and boss. Not an ideal way to start out, but this is the current status quo. Live a disciplined life in and outside of work from day zero to retirement, and I beleive that will inspire discipline within our sphere of influence.
