    Couple of thoughts:

1- @rakimball, If we’re going to say that we are either training or executing, then I would argue that recovery and reflection are part of the execution. I’ve seen plenty of missions that end pay lip service in the OPORD about “consolidation and reorganization in Phase IV,” but a good unit makes sure we actually conduct a deliberate recovery and include the AAR in that process. I agree that these usually get “powered down,” and thusly brushed aside to move on to the next “actual training” event, but if we can operationalize recovery, then I think we’ll better tackle the issues you mentioned.

2- @brock.j.young, I think you absolutely must train more than just the T&EO. I’m on Active Duty, so we have a lot more time to tackle these issues, but there’s really no way to replace the professional development topics you mentioned without an LPD series of some sort. There are going to be times for on-the-spot/hip pocket sessions, but a more deliberate system is really the only way to develop the culture in your organization to make generational impacts.
