I would recommend waiting the first 30 days before giving an initial counseling with your PSG. You need to observe your PSG in a leadership role and how the platoon works with him or her. Next, evaluate your leadership style and how you and your PSG work together (strengths and weaknesses). Just remember you and your PSG are a team and need to work together to ensure your soldier get the best leadership they deserve.

During the counseling don’t reinvent the wheel, for the most part, your PSG knows what is expected of him or her and remind them of it, but be sure you know what is expected of them. You two will guild the platoon to victory or to failure.
