Article on Professional Officer Conduct
I learned from mistakes, wish I (knew) to read this and reflect, as a 2LT. Some ask themselves, 'how to be'. There's a level of maturity and emotional intelligence that separates officers. I remember fighting for one of my lieutenants who worked hard, learned fast, got more done than others and his senior rater, the LTC stating- "Yeah, but is he mature enough as an officer? Can he stand in front of troops, speak clearly, command respect?" I was at a loss, and had him do my weekend safety briefs and noticed what the LTC was saying about maturity, the lieutenant was profane, spoke with a shaky voice, joked when it wasn't appropriate…
If you read this, reflect and start preparing early. Recommend the Zais article on "Caring" as well. General Cucolo's articlebenefits not just Captains preparing for next rank, but worthwhile reflection for a lieutenant coming up.
