Quality vs Convenience

Quality vs Convenience

This case study is provided to spark and support a professional conversation among officers and senior NCOs about when to streamline actions like procurement and purchasing, and when to go “by the book.” This package will be useful for any units who want to talk about purchasing, logistics, and the DoD standards for both. It can also be used to talk about standards as a whole: as leaders, when do we have the latitude to bend or break standards? Does it matter what the standards are about?

Materials:

  • Two videos (Intro: 3 mins, Rest of the Story: 4 mins) that feature the NCOIC of a Missile Squadron.  He tells a story about a time when his command had to choose between a long wait for a high-quality product and the quick delivery of a lesser quality product.
  • Leader Guide
