Handwritten notes is a brilliant idea. My last BN commander wrote each of his staff members a quick note before our winter block leave, so about 6 months into his command. It was a few sentences, but I knew that multiplied times a few dozen people took him A LOT of time for him to handwrite each one. It was really just SO cool. After I got it, I called my office together, read it out loud to them, and posted a copy of it on our office bulletin board. Over the months I printed out photos from training exercises and other memorabilia. I’ll be honest, I don’t know that my Soldier’s loved it, but I would catch some other Soldiers reading the letter/photos/etc as time passed. I’d argue that we really got mileage out of that letter from The Boss.
