I recently attended a leadership symposium and the lecturer posted an obscure quote. you cannot manage a soldier in battle, they must be led. Which led to a massive discussion of the difference between a Manager and a Leader.

To my mind there is a significant difference between a leader and a manager. A leader provides vision, builds the culture of the organization. A manager keeps the organization aligned with the leaders vision.
