I’ve tried in the past.  The issue is getting the active to work week-ends….   Recently, requested something similar at Campbell and was told that sure, but you need to come in during the week.

We have worked with Active Units in Europe before especially during Saber Guardian and twice with USF-K with a Yama Sakura and an Ulchi Freedom Guardian.  Its a great opportunity to train alongside our Active Brethren and I highly encourage it.  Plus ODT allows three weeks of training.  As a commander its an awesome opportunity to take your unit outside the usual drill pattern and expose your troops to new ideas and cultures.  ODTs can be a great unit morale builder.   The challenge we run into is the time differences.  For us to prepare and ship we have to know a lot more in advance than many AD units plan but its not insurmountable.  You have to think a little further in advance and wargame it.
