One TTP I’ve seen utilized that’s worth considering – but likely not in an SOP – is having an option to include FRG in the notification process.
In my first deployment to Iraq my unit asked each spouse and/or next of kin of each deploying Soldier ‘if something happens to your loved one is there a particular person or persons in the local area/affiliated with the unit you would like notified?’ The idea was once the NoK was notified, a care network the NoK themselves had a say in was activated – versus a generic one for everyone.
It’s an administratively labor-intensive process but an excellent role for a good FRG.
It’s also critical it be executed as an opt-in with consent given up front, then again at notification. You definitely don’t want any circumstances where people in an FRG are being notified before NoK – that’s founded IG complaint territory.
