George – mhmhmm, Books!, yummy! 🙂 Great post!
I’ve read “Leaders Eat Last” and it was good! I was able to read it very quickly because I found alot of parallels with military training. But I enjoyed how simply and straightforward Sinek explained things without being (let’s face it) overly hooah like ADP & ADRPs can be. I found it helpful and…[Read more]

Jeff,
I completely agree about judiciously closing your door!! Spot on, it’s inefficient and distracting. For me, closing the door was also an introvert recharge technique that I had to balance with the significant amount of extrovert-focused AG work that S1 requires (it’s alot of calming people down, and coaching many people through the same…[Read more] -

Hey, Jeff! Totally agree about the business cards! I started doing that at my last job and present job. Not only is it helpful for the current duties as I execute them, but (I hope) it’s helpful to the person to take the seat after me.
Great point!!

It’s great to hear that you found this piece helpful and insightful – that’s exactly my goal! But I agree that the conversation doesn’t stop there. I’m also interested in learning what others have experienced and worked through, dual-mil or not, or – actually – marriage, divorce, or otherwise.

Hi Mandi,
I just read this article. I apologize, I got to my new unit and was overwhelmed. Kept telling myself to check for it and kept forgetting. I really enjoyed reading about your experiences in this matter. Great writing!

In this Content post, I talk about changing your last name due to marriage, specifically as a dual-military couple.
What do I think I missed or got wrong? How does this change for other circumstances, such as divorce? What’s your experience – good, bad, or ugly?

Chad – YES! I also create my Continuity Book during my LS/RS of a new job. I’m learning how to do the new job, so I might as well turn my notes into a How-To for someone else. A monthly Calendar reminder is a great idea! I should add that into my battle rhythm. My additions tend to be conditions (not time based) (basically, when I have time to…[Read more]

Vanezza, I had a very similar experience as a 2LT on Bde staff of a MI BDE . My first formation I watched dumbfounded as all the officers walked away from the formation, some right back into the building for work. Â Wasn’t PT a group activity in the Army? The CC came up to me and my peer, and asked us if we had a PT plan. Â I pulled an index card o…[Read more]

Adam, a written plan can definitely help Soldiers (and anyone) reflect on what they are currently do versus what they need to do to make a change.  You’re seeing a numerical, objective  change in APFT scores. Are you seeing a cultural shift as well? Was it a deliberate decision to not have a reward system for high APFT scorers to pair with your p…[Read more]
