There are so many facets and levels of responsibilities to this topic, that it’s hard to talk about just one without at least touching on them all.
Leaders responsibilities. Like @Patrick_d_moore1 stated, leader responsibility starts with ensuring all under your charge (to include yourself) know and understand DoD and local regulation and p…[Read more]

Conducting EES/NCOER training, SAT, 18 March 17: Call-in and or follow online.
I am conducting NCOER/Eval training this weekend and wanted to cast the net to anyone who is interested to join or might be drilling. The classes will be “Intro To EES-Just the Basics” and more advanced “Writing the NCOER; Basics and Art of Bullet Writing” classes…[Read more] -

Nothing beats spending some time with the kids… And realizing you can’t just jump back out on the ice in a pair of skates when you haven’t done it in 15 years…

brock.j.young started the topic Thoughts on "A Message to Garcia" in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 1 month ago
I recently read an outstanding article by Adam Maisel and Will DuVal (Published 9 March 2017 by The Modern War Institute; http://mwi.usma.edu/outdated-message-garcia-hubbards-essay-needs-shelved-good/) that validated everything that I personally thought about the 1500 word essay, “A Message to Garcia.” If you haven’t read it (I would be sur…[Read more]

I embrace storytelling. The stories I tell are based on my personal experiences rather than trying to recruit or sell anything. I try to shape the story to the crowd and intent of the meeting, though, so I make it informative or energizing or mentoring or instructing, as the case may be.
With folks who know the Army, I tell them more detail a…[Read more]

@Patrick-d-moore1, Now there’s a word we don’t hear a lot of. However I agree it is something that can have a massive impact, positively or negatively, on our careers; “politics.”
How do you navigate the waters of a system that in some States can be as much “who” you know, as “what” you know (and whether or not they like you)? Do you have…[Read more]

A message, a story, a funny anecdote of “that time in (insert foreign land),” I think we agree that it’s important to have something prepared, even if only a couple of key points.
Besides a personal “Army” story, why a person joined, and the benefits of service, what are some other points that Soldiers should have in the rucks, ready to…[Read more]

@cptchristopherprice, regarding your #2 and #4.
Can having good mentors who are outside of the those chains of command help off set those developmental challenges?

Can we add images yet to out posts/replies? I see the insert/edit image button on the bar, however when it pops up there is no way I see that I can upload or chose a picture to include in the post anywhere.
I’ve attached a screen shot of what I’m looking at.

brock.j.young replied to the topic What interesting things have you done to maintain or improve morale? in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 2 months ago
@cptchristopherprice, Great topic and absolutely relevant. Morale is one of those combat multipliers that leaders, especially in the Guard and Reserves, overlook because they are so slammed with the avalanche of tasks and suspense items that inevitably make up every drill. Morale matters even more when going into a mobilization. What I did…[Read more]
