What advice would you give to a young lieutenant who’s only experience in the Army has been at school and has to counsel an NCO with twenty plus years of experience?

Living at west point for four years, it is common for cadets to be accustomed to have their housing situation settled for them. Are there any recommendations for a single soon to be graduate going to BOLC and soon after to his/her first unit?
