Another piece of FRG advice I wish I had before taking command was becoming familiar with virtual FRG (“vFRG”) found at http://www.ArmyFRG.org.

This website gives families ability to browse unit news and updates that would otherwise not be able to be posted on Facebook or other social media site. While vFRG is not classified, access to the site is controlled by unit moderators so only family should be the ones seeing pictures, updates and news. Our vFRG was most active to the months leading up to deployment and deployment itself. We used a JRTC rotation as a ‘dress rehearsal’ for many things to include the vFRG site.  Expect normal reliability of any Army website.

Its worth checking out if your company does not have one yet but there will be some significant work starting from scratch. Make sure to include adding/removing family member access from your vFRG during in-processing/out-processing to maintain the intended security of the information.

Anyone else have a similar or different vFRG experience?
